Sunbeach Hotel is at Narigama, Hikkaduwa, 100 kilometres south of Colombo City. The hotel is situated on the beachside with the garden leading directly to the beach and surf of the Indian Ocean.
All rooms have ensuite shower & wc. There are 10 twin rooms, 1 Triple room, 1 double with air-con and our Treehouse Suite with its own entrance and large balcony overlooking the sea.

The Beach & Swimming
The sea is wonderfully warm and clear. Certain parts are safer for parents with young children and local advice is readily available. The beach is long and wide offering walks to Dodanduwa fishing village to the south. The local fisherman set out their nets and pull in their catch to the beach. The beach is lined with many little restaurants and houses nestled into the palm and coconut trees.

 

Food

The garden restaurant serves breakfast, a daytime menu and dinner, using freshly prepared produce to create a wide range of local and international dishes. Pan fried in the kitchen or whole-baked over cinnamon wood on the barbecue, our chefs offer a wide range of specialities including sri lankan curries, seafood platters (lobster, crab, jumbo prawns), pastas and meat specials together with an abundance of locally produced vegetables and fruit.

Sunbeach Hotel is located in Narigama, Hikkaduwa, about 2 hours south of Colombo City and 3 hours south of Colombo International Airport. It is situated on the beach side of the Galle Road with a garden leading to the ocean and long sandy, palm fringed beach. It sits directly opposite the surfing beach break.
It is single storey villa that can accommodate up to 25 guests, and offers a convenient and comfortable base for families, surfers and travellers alike. The hotel welcomes guests of all ages and nationalities.

Rooms & Prices

(Sunbeach) offers a 7 night package for 2 sharing of £150 per person inclusive of bed, breakfast, dinner and airport transfers. Please email us for quotations. Discounts are available for extended bookings and during October and March.
There are standard twins, double with air con and the treehouse suite located in the garden, with balcony overlooking the beach and surf. All rooms have ensuite bathroom with shower/wc, net and fan.

Services

The hotel has a tv lounge with video player and music system. Housekeeping provides a laundry service and the office has internet connections available to guests.
The staff have extensive knowledge of areas all over Sri Lanka and can advise travellers or arrange trips either locally or further afield.

The hotel is managed by Chaminda Pandithage who is assisted by a team of chefs, stewards, housekeeping and gardening staff.
The staff offer a relaxed environment where guests can absorb the warm hospitality on offer. We welcome guests from all over the world, individuals, families and surfers. During Christmas and New Year we actively celebrate and include our guests with fabulous buffets and fireworks.
Off-season and for extended stays we are happy to negotiate room prices.

The hotel can arrange or advise on trips and activities. We have an indoor video area with music system as well as pc and internet service.

Food can be cooked to order, with special consideration for children's preferences. Sunbeach offers a range of daytime snacks and lunch and dinner menus. Bottled water, fresh fruit juices, beers and spirits are available daily.

Daily room cleaning is provided as well as a laundry service.

We offer an airport collection / drop off service - our driver will meet you on arrival at Colombo airport or other location and drive you in the comfort of an air-con van to the hotel. It takes between 3-3.5 hours to travel from Colombo airport (north of the city) to Hikkaduwa.

Food

The outdoor restaurant features a barbecue and tandoori. Our chefs select fresh produce daily and provide a range of dishes including fish, seafood, beef, chicken, vegetables, pastas, traditional sri lankan curries, & resh fruit. Whole fish and seafood are cooked on cinnamon wood on the barbecue for our regular buffet dinners. We serve home-made maramalade and fruit ice creams.

Climate

The ideal time to visit the South West of the island is between October and March, following the monsoon season. The sea is calm and the beach wide, with mostly cloudless skies. The temperature remains steady throughout at around 87C. The east coast is best from April to September. As the seasons are no longer so predictable short heavy downpours and spectacular lightning storms can be seen at any time including the southwest " high season " October - March.

Local attractions

Surf
Beachside there are two surf breaks - the beach break opposite Sunbeach Hotel and the reef break 50 yards along the beach. The reef break is one of the most consistent spots with lefts and rights on a flat coral reef. For quieter spots there are a number of good breaks along the coast. Local instructors can be found and occasionally boards can be hired but it is recommended you bring your own. Boogie boards are available to hire on the beach.

Diving
November to April is the best season for diving and there are a number of qualified PADI instructors at Dive schools in the area. PADI open water courses, advanced courses and single dives can all be arranged.

Snorkelling
Snorkelling equipment can be hired and the reef explored from the beach at Hikkaduwa. Glass-bottomed boats can be hired to explore the reef further from the shore.

Jungleside
The main road outside the hotel separates the beachside from the jungle where there are many local excursions on offer to discover a varied landscape and places of interest.

Bikes can be hired or tuk-tuks will take you through the myriad of dirt roads through lush foliage, rice fields and villages. There are two large lakes, one at Dodanduwa and " Bird Lake " where canoes can be hired. Extensive wildlife and beautiful surroundings offer many experiences.
The local turtle conservation projects contain many of the world's species and purchase eggs from local fishermen to bury and hatch before they are released under supervision in the sea.
The rainforest

Surrounding Area

The coast south from Hikkaduwa is well worth exploring through Unawatuna, Marissa and Galle. Unawatuna has a picturesque beach along a sheltered bay, protected by a large reef. It is very safe for children and offers great snorkelling. Galle is the most important town in the south and retains much of its colonial atmosphere. Galle Fort was declared a world heritage site in 1988.

Cricket

A passion for most in the country, cricket has produced some outstanding players in Sri Lanka.
Stadiums in Galle, Colombo or Kandy offer a colourful and exciting experience.
On the 1st to the 5th December 2003, at Galle, Sri Lanka play England in a 5 day series. Sunbeach is offering cricket fans a package to include room with breakfast, evening meal, tickets to each day of play and transport to and from the grounds at Galle.
